Raw Kale is an ancient food this is becoming more popular than ever – this may be due to its fat-burning capabilities, who knew? The veggie hails from a cabbage family that also includes collards, cauliflower, and broccoli.
Kale is a superfood, which means it is exploding with nutrients. This leafy, dark green veggie dates back to Roman times and has since remained common across Europe. It blends well with almost everything, making it a great salad addition to any meal.
Kale is high in fibre and low in calories – that’s the reason why it’s helpful in burning fat! Additionally, it is packed with a number of minerals and vitamins. Now, are you wondering what it tastes like?
Kale tastes a bit like spinach, except it is rather bitter. If you are not into bitter tasting foods, try heating the kale up a bit. This will dilute the intense bitterness.

Recipe: Raw Kale, Roasted Hazelnut, and Grapefruit Salad
- Pink grapefruit – 2
- Red onion – ½, thinly sliced and divided
- Fat-free yoghurt – ½ cup
- Lemon juice – ¼ cup
- Kosher salt – ½ teaspoon
- Olive oil (extra-virgin) – 2 tablespoons
- Black Pepper – ¼ teaspoon
- Lacinato kale – 8 ounces, thinly sliced
- Baby kale leaves
- Toasted hazelnuts – 1/3 cup, finely chopped
Kale Salad Dressing
Preparation time: 15 Minutes | Yield: 4 servings (size – ¼ cup)
- Peel off the grapefruit and segment it.
- Reserve 3 tablespoons of juice in the large bowl.
- Mince 3 rings onion.
- Now, add these to the grapefruit juice along with the lemon juice, oil, salt, pepper, and yoghurt.
- Whisk all these ingredients until they get mixed properly.
- Toss this mixture in kale. Top with the remaining grapefruit, hazelnuts, and onions. Voila! Your salad is ready to serve.
